K-9 Unit

Protecting our "Angel"   The Fur Angels based out of Lincoln Park, Michigan are reaching out to the surrounding communities in an attempt to purchase a bullet proof vest for "Rocco", the city of Flat Rocks new K-9 unit. The vest that Rocco needs is priced at $1300 and will help protect him as performs his duties in the field. We are happy to say that that the Fur Angels fundraiser was a great success. As of 2/21/04 the Fur Angels have met their goal of obtaining the money needed to purchase a vest for Rocco. many citizens from several different communities worked in unison on this extremely important cause. A special thanks goes out to Roger Fitch, who, as reported on the Fur Angels web site, collected the majority of the funds. The City of Flat Rock Canine Unit.   The Flat Rock Police department has for the first time added a full-time canine unit to its arsenal of law enforcement tools. In the past the city of Flat Rock has had to rely on other municipalities for assistance in cases where a canine unit was needed. We are happy to say with the addition of Rocco and his partner Officer Jerry Page, there will no longer be a need to look outside of our department for help in situations where a canine unit is needed. Both Officer Page and Rocco were put through a rigorous training regimen at the K-9 Academy located in Romulus, Michigan. "The canine certification training both Rocco and I went through was in some ways tougher then my SWAT training", Officer Page explained. During the 3 months that our canine team were in training, they received certifications in the following areas. Obedience Handler Protection Tracking / Apprehension Narcotics Detections Area Searches Evidence Searches Building Searches When our team is not on duty, Rocco returns to the his new home with Officer Page and his family, where his presence has been very well received.
