Pool Safety & Requirements

As a reminder to all residents in the city, please be conscious to safety this summer season. It only takes a second for a child or person to drown.

Let's take every possible precaution to protect our children and young adults in preventing tragedy.

Pursuant of Michigan Building Code 2009, Section 3109 - Swimming Pool Enclosures and Safety Devices: Any structure intended for swimming, recreational bathing, or wading that contains water over 24" (inches) deep will need to obtain the required permits before installation. This includes in ground, above-ground and on-ground pools, hot tubs, spas and fixed-in-place wading pools.

Please completely fill out a Zoning Permit Application with a copy of the contract and plan attached and turn into the Building and Safety Deparment for review. For a successful review please review the Pool Checklist.

For the residents who do not own a pool, but would enjoy swimming, please visit the Flat Rock Community Center web site or contact them by phone at (734) 379-1450 for all your recreational needs.

For any questions regarding pool requirements please contact the Building Department between 8:00AM-4:30PM Monday - Friday at (734) 782-0445.
