GLWA'S Response to Water Taste and Odor Concerns

The Great Lakes Water Authority is issuing a notice to all its communities serviced by the Southwest Water Treatment plant that all the appropriate regulatory compliance checks indicate that we are meeting the regulatory standards. The taste and odor that your communities are experiencing is a water quality aesthetic problem. The GLWA is expanding its response and testing. The GLWA estimates the T&O incident should resolve itself within the next 12 hours.

Should you have any additional questions Please contact GLWA Water Quality 313 926-8102."

Holiday Happenings

As we get into the Holiday Season here is an overview of some of the happenings here in Flat Rock

On November 29th, please join us at City Hall for the Christmas Tree Lighting and Santa's Arrival. Mayor Dropiewski will once again light our Christmas tree outside at 6pm. (The old tree unfortunately needed to be replaced so the new tree, while smaller, will grow as the City celebrates its next 50 years) At 6:30 Santa will arrive and be given the key to the City. He will then be available to visit with Flat Rock residents 10 and under until 8pm. (Parents please bring your own cameras. If you are in line at 8pm you will see Santa!) You can also check out a few of our new Christmas decorations, including the new Manger that was built by Flat Rock students and our new Season's Greetings and Merry Christmas signs that replaced decades old similar decorations. We are also adding a few additional items and hope to have even more for next year.

Thursday Dec 1st at 1pm is our Annual Senior Christmas Gathering at the Community Center for those ages 55+. Event is free for residents but preregistration is required. Call the Community Center at 734-379-1450.
Santa returns on Saturday Dec 3 at 9am for Breakfast with Santa at the Community Center. There will also be a magic show. There is a small cost for the event. Preregistration is required. Please call the Community Center at 734-379-1450 for more details.

The Christmas Home and Business Decorating Contest judging will take place on December 8th. Registration is not required and winners will be notified.

Friday December 9th, the Community Center is offering a Kids Night Out from 5-9pm for kids ages 2-13. There is a small cost for this event but this drop off event includes pizza dinner and wide variety of activities, while giving parents a night out. Preregistration is required. Please call the Community Center at 734-379-1450 for more details.

Sunday December 11th from 1-4pm, Mrs. Claus arrives at the Munger General Store.

Throughout the Christmas season Santa's mailbox will be available at the Flat Rock Library. Please include the child's name age and mailing address on the letter so that they may receive a response. The mailbox will be brought to City Hall for Santa's arrival on the 29th and returned to the Library on the 30th. The deadline for letters is December 16th at 1:30pm.

Already underway is the Flat Rock Our Hometown Christmas Passport program. Available in any one of the 40+ participating Flat Rock businesses or at City Hall, the Passport program is designed to encourage shopping within Flat Rock. With each purchase you receive a stamp. When you return your Passport with 6 stamps from at least 3 different businesses you are entered into a drawing to win up to $500 in dollars to be spent at participating Flat Rock businesses. With 6 stamps from 6 different businesses you are entered to win a large basket filled with items from all of the businesses. On Thanksgiving Weekend (including Small Business Saturday) most businesses will be doing double Stamps. There is no limit to the number of passports you may turn in, so please Shop and Dine in Flat Rock!

The Flat Rock Model Train Depot and Museum will be open during the Holiday Season with special Christmas displays. The Holiday Depot exhibit will be open from 1-4pm with a small Admission fee on the following days during the upcoming weeks. NOV 28 DEC 5, 13, 19, 23, 26, 30 JAN 2.

With the weather eventually changing, the DPS department will be getting the Ice Rink ready for the season as well. Please stay tuned to the City's website and Facebook for opening dates and details.

The City of Flat Rock and the Alliance of Downriver Watersheds are asking residents to help us evaluate our past education efforts and set the direction for our future outreach programming.  We hope to learn what you already know about our fresh water resourses and how you protect them from pollution.

Please take an online servey; it takes just 10 minutes.
